Artist Statement
My favorite themes for painting—flowers, wildlife, ballet dancers and landscapes—come from my past experiences and my current interests, gardening, hiking, and travel. Watercolor allows me to express on paper both dynamism and tranquility, fragility and strength, the delicate and the bold, the obvious and the mysterious. Through the use of such simple elements, a transformative magic occurs. I can create a mood, a sense of mystery; focus on the beauty of a flower and capture a moment in time. In my artistic journey I have been influenced by the beauty and simplicity of Chinese and Japanese paintings, and by European painters such as Cezanne and Matisse.
